What is a CCRC?
A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) is designed to offer active seniors an independent lifestyle from the privacy of their own home. The community offers access to coordinated social activities, dining services and health care when and if the course of aging raises the need.
CCRCs provide the best of both worlds – providing for your current active lifestyle with a host of quality services and amenities, including health and wellness programs, while also providing the peace of mind that comes from knowing should your needs change in the future, guaranteed access to higher levels of care such as assisted living, skilled nursing and dementia care are available, at affordable rates.
Is my entrance fee refundable?
Shannondell’s entrance fee is fully refundable to you or your estate upon completion of your stay, as outlined in the Residence and Care Agreement. In addition to being a fiscally sound estate planning tool, our refundable entrance fee policy is just part of Shannondell’s commitment to make your retirement years as comfortable and carefree as possible. What services are included with the monthly fee?
Your monthly service fee includes most meals and utilities, housekeeping and grounds keeping service, trash service, scheduled transportation, on-site educational and cultural events, concierge service, room service, a debit system for on-site purchases, daily check-in system, 24/7 security, emergency response system and more!
What types of residences are available?
Shannondell residents can choose from well-appointed studios, one- and two-bedroom homes in several spacious floor plans, which range in size from 708 to 2,130 square feet; all designed to allow for a variety of lifestyles.
May I renovate or decorate my home?
Absolutely. Our Design Center at Shannondell offers professional consultants to help ensure that your home reflects your individual style and tastes. Choose from dozens of options for finishes, paint, wallpaper, cabinetry, floor coverings, molding, fixtures and appliances. You can even work with your own decorator to create your perfect home, exactly as you want it to be.
Do you provide any assistance in helping to sell my current home?
Yes. As a value-added service to new residents, our resident real estate manager will work with your real estate agent to ensure your home is marketed optimally to maximize the sale price while also seeking to minimize the time spent on the market. Additionally, we offer space planning by a professional interior designer and unpacking services the day of your move. So, from Day One, you can completely relax in your new home at Shannondell.
Can my children and grandchildren visit us and use your amenities?
Absolutely. Children and grandchildren are a common and welcome sight at Shannondell. From joining their parents and grandparents for scrumptious meals, concerts and musicals in our performing arts theater; to a challenging game of table tennis, billiards, bocce or Wii bowling in our video game room, Shannondell is a place where generations of families can comfortably come together for fun and lasting memories. And for family traveling from out of town, Shannondell residents can reserve one of several guest rooms available for just such occasions.
It looks like there’s a lot to do. How varied are your activities and programs?
Where do we start? How about indoor Aquatics and Fitness centers, indoor and outdoor bocce courts, two movie theaters, video game room, Performing Arts Theater, six dining venues, championship table tennis, billiards, arts & crafts studios, wood working shop, model train room, libraries and resident garden, to name a few. Plus, Shannondell residents enjoy a wide variety of clubs, classes and groups. From on-site college classes, book and bible study groups, acting, wood carving, dancing, bridge, painting, even family history writing, the opportunities for learning and sharing with others is plentiful.
What happens if I need medical attention for illness or injury?
Shannondell at Valley Forge is the only retirement community in the greater Philadelphia area to offer a physician-staffed Main Line Health Center on-site. This center offers you access to some of the area’s top primary care and specialists in the medical field. For your convenience, Shannondell also offers an on-site pharmacy with delivery to your residence.

Do you have assisted living or continuing care facilities?
The Meadows at Shannondell, an on-site long-term care facility, offers a higher level and/or longer period of care including home health services, rehabilitative services, personal care, skilled nursing and Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

From Pennsylvania Turnpike
- Take the Valley Forge Exit. Follow signs to 422 West (Pottstown). Travel approximately 1/2 mile to Route 422 West (Pottstown).
- Exit on the right at Route 363 North (Trooper/Audubon) after crossing over Schuylkill River.
- Proceed to the 4th traffic light and turn left onto Shannondell Blvd.
- Continue straight through the intersection and enter through the Gate House on the left.
From Philadelphia
- Take Interstate 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Proceed to Route 422 West (Pottstown).
- Exit on the right at Route 363 North (Trooper/Audubon) after crossing over Schuylkill River.
- Proceed to the 4th traffic light and turn left onto Shannondell Blvd.
- Continue straight through the intersection and enter through the Gate House on the left.
