Responding to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Updated: April 16, 2021
In responding to this unprecedented global outbreak, we’re closely following recommendations from the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) which, as has been reported in the media, have been changing frequently as the virus spreads in the U.S. Our first priority is the safety of our residents and employees. As such, we have implemented a number of new protocols to safeguard our community. These include: (new protocols are bolded)
- Guests of residents are welcome to visit in residents’ homes only. Masks must be worn on campus.
- As of Friday, March 5, Shannondell residents and staff have received their second COVID vaccine.
- As of Friday, February 12, Shannondell residents and staff have received their first COVID vaccine.
- We have resumed our former Triple Dining option for residents. This includes meal delivery, buffet dining with spaced seating, and buffet take-out. Also, a limited number of group activities have resumed, again with safely spaced participation. Finally, vaccines for residents and staff are scheduled to be administered by our federal partner Walgreens beginning February 8th.
- Following the announcement of new PA state guidelines taking effect December 12, 2020, all clubhouse activities have been suspended with all meals being delivered to residents’ homes for a minimum of three weeks (to Jan. 4th 2021)
- All new residents are required to have a COVID-19 test prior to moving in, or to isolate for 14 days
- If returning from the hospital, residents must isolate for 14 days
- If traveling outside of Pennsylvania to states identified by the governor’s office, residents must isolate for 14 days upon return
- Isolation is also required if you have been in contact with anyone with symptoms or with knowledge of possible exposure
- Housekeeping services are optional, and residents must vacate their residence during service
- Activity programs are limited and any spaces used for group activities have participant limits to allow for physical distancing requirements
- All activities require reservations and sign-ups for contact tracing
- All common spaces are cleaned using electrostatic sprayers
- Meals can be delivered or residents may choose take-out buffet meals
- No guest visits are allowed unless bringing necessary supplies for residents
- Masks must be worn in all public spaces
- All meals are being delivered to residents’ homes
- Shannondell residents are being asked to minimize family and friends’ visits to those deemed absolutely necessary (e.g., grocery and pharmacy delivery)
- All resident group activities at Shannondell have been postponed indefinitely.
- Intensified cleaning of all common areas, particularly high-touch areas like railings, tabletops and elevators is ongoing.
- Postings at all residential entrances warn anyone who feels ill and/or has traveled to any of the CDC Travel Watch countries not to enter.
- All staff, including pharmacy personnel, have completed travel questionnaires and undergo daily health screenings (temperature checks) before reporting to work.
- All health care companies providing personal care services are being required to follow similar precautionary protocols.
- All guests, including family members and volunteers, are prohibited from visiting The Meadows at Shannondell and Rehab at Shannondell for an undetermined period of time.
We continue to communicate daily with our medical directors, the Department of Health and are closely monitoring CDC guidelines. As conditions change, we will update our protocols and safeguards as necessary for the safety of all of those who live and work in our community and sister properties, including The Meadows at Shannondell, Rehab at Shannondell and The Club at Shannondell.
