It was Picasso who said, “Every child is 
an artist, the problem is staying an artist 
when you grow up.” So, you might say that 
Shannondell residents who, thanks to our 
lifestyle, have been inspired to discover 
hidden talents and hone lifelong pursuits are 
actually tapping their inner child. 
	
When we asked a group of these 
creative souls if they’d mind sharing a few samples of 
their personal creations for this portrait series, they 
were honored by the invitation. Of course, we couldn’t 
let the opportunity pass without having them also 
divulge a few details on how and when their interest 
and talents surfaced, and if they currently join other 
residents in enjoying this same pastime. 
Greg: 
This particular colored pencil drawing is titled “My 
Father’s Kindly Eyes” and there’s a poem I wrote that 
accompanies it. I’ve been creating artwork and writing 
accompanying poetry since we moved here about six 
years ago. 
Maureen: 
It’s the most modern (design) quilt I’ve made to date. 
It was also chosen to hang in the Shannondell Art 
Gallery exhibit “The Abstract: An Artists Among Us 
Show” which opened in late April.
