By Herb Kaufman
August 4, 2 p.m. (Bradford movie theater)

Americans have long contended with the
government reaching into their pockets.
Did you know the first income tax was
introduced to finance the Civil War? And
later, the tax was actually welcomed by
many? The history of money and taxes is
an intriguing tale with a cast of characters
including Hamilton, Lincoln, and FDR. It’s
also a lesson of how a rural society can
become a powerful nation. From the 16th
Amendment to the creation of the dollar,
we’ll follow this long road of revenue
and rebellion.
